50s across atlanta and also the city of raleigh, north carolina. we are actually going to be tracking a little bit of snow today across places in the central plains. already seeing some of that across parts of oklahoma and kansas. eventually, you guys, we are going to be seeing a little bit of snow showers into the mid-atlantic later on tonight into tomorrow morning. including right here new york city. but no accumulation. >> marie a thanks so much for that update. let's talk about this story. you heard it on fox news for the past several weeks. that is john hammar. he is the former marine who served in iraq and afghanistan who was then going for r and r in costa rica with a buddy. he crossed the border into mexico with gahanna. he he thought he had registered it and filled out all the proper paperwork but he didn't. he ended up being locked up in a mexican prison for five months. well, his father is now speaking out about just how -- what bad shape he is in. >> it's not just r and r that he was going down for a is surfing trip. he had post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues.
to atlanta to washington, d.c., this is where we're seeing the messiest weather. so for travelers if you're going anywhere out of houston's international airport, you'll have to dodge the showers. but right now, we're not looking at delays there. most of the precipitation in the form of ice or maybe snow is really not making it to the ground. occasionally you might see a little of that right around washington, d.c. extending over towards delaware, but for the most part, that's moving out fairly quickly. and then the deeply cold air can be found across northern new england. take a look at these temperatures. right now we're looking at caribou, maine with minus 20 degrees. that's not the windchill factor. current temperatures outside in new york city, 23. buffalo 20. washington, d.c. a little bit of the frost is gone maybe. 37 degrees being reported there right now. the highs today expected in washington, only about 38. so you won't see much movement as far as mercury is concerned. and if you're wondering who will see the coldest temperatures across the northern tier where those temperatur

the atlanta pastor who bowed out last week after a controversy erupted over his anti-gay sermon that he delivered back in the 1990s. so as the final preparations move forward for monday's inauguration in full swing, i'm joined by kerry brown, white house reporter for politico, to talk about the final touches. is the inaugural committee bracing for any more pitfalls in the final days or does it look like smooth sailing ahead? >> i'm sure they're preparing for it because really, anything can happen. this is a huge event even though it's expected to be smaller than it was four years ago. they are still expecting almost a million people, 40,000 people are expected to attend one of the inaugural balls. this is an event or series of events over several days that isn't expected to be as dazzling, so to speak, as four years ago, but really, in many respects, this is going to be a huge deal, especially here in washington, and there's a number of things over several days, a candlelight dinner on sunday night at the kennedy center, a big event monday on the mall where, you know, they're expecting
. in atlanta a treetopled after a crane removed it from the top of a mall snapped. you can see the 60-foot tree dangling off the side of the macy's building. firefighters moved in to help remove it after the crane broke. the tree fell into the roof of the store causing damage inside, as well. nobody was hurt. but my guess is they are going to have a plan b next year. >> i know. you can't see it but on our rundown we entitled that story christmas tree fail. . organizers are planning more news conferences at auto shows in chicago, in atlanta in the next few months. they're not going to give up. they're hoping the attention will simply help the workers in canton to get a choice about organizing. to be fair, not all of the employees want the union. nissan told us today that they just think a few employees are pushing for the vote. and it's understandably a full-time worker at a nissan assembly plant in canton, mississippi makes about $24.50 an hour. a long-time uaw worker makes $28 per hour. it's a good living. workers tell us they like their jobs there. >> there is a lot of people that want to be here. and this job, this place can change a lot of lives. and, you know, the pride, it's in the vehicles themselves. >> but here is the problem. workers have the right to organize. it's the law. and nissan has a reputation for beating back the unions. this summer, nissan's ceo promised not to pressure the employees. he told reuters we will naturally remain very neutral on this. but that same ceo reportedly made a big screen anti-union speech to workers
